A Lecture-Concert Benefit for St. Boniface: Ysaÿe and the Organ at 100 with Max Tan

This event is part of the Suncoast Composer Fellowship Program’s Music and Storytelling Conference.

The great Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe, often credited as the father of modern violin playing, created arrangements of famous violin works for violin, piano, and organ. These unpublished arrangements, located in the Special Collections of The Juilliard School, were recently studied and recorded for the first time by violinist Max Tan. This concert tells the story of these manuscripts and presents these arrangements live in celebration of their 100th anniversary. CDs of these first ever recordings will be on sale after the program.

This chamber music and ensemble program celebrates storytelling through a multi-sensory experience with local premieres of new music! Join us for an evening in which music explores the fragility of life and boldness of characters, culminating in Marc Migó’s “Carnival de las Indias,” narrated by Annie Dutoit-Argerich, conducted by Glen Cortese, and performed by the Soundbox Camerata. Suitable for children and families.

Improvising Mozart: A Benefit for St. Boniface from Soundbox's Listen Hear Salon Concerts

Soundbox's Listen Hear Salon Concerts returns to St. Boniface Episcopal Church! 

In the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Soundbox is dedicating two performances from its Listen Hear series to benefit St. Boniface in its recovery efforts. Ticket proceeds, minus administrative fees, will go directly to St. Boniface to fund its restoration as a spiritual and cultural center in Sarasota! 

This benefit concert features a multi-disciplinary immersive arts experience on St. Boniface's campus that celebrates the resilience of Sarasota and Siesta Key communities. Arrive as early as 5:30pm to explore the campus as well as enjoy the Siesta Key sunset before the concert!

Event Run:

5:30pm: Pre-concert food spread with drinks, St. Boniface campus open to exploration

6:30pm: Sanctuary doors open for celebration concert

7:00pm: Benefit concert

Musical Offering:

Four Mozart sonatas will be presented as a musical tasting menu. Violinist Max Tan and pianist David Kaplan will improvise live on stage and guide the audience through their creative process.

Listen Hear: Ned Rorem's Centenary: Celebrating His Life in Music and Words

Curated by pianist Marisa Gupta and baritone Tom Meglioranza, this program honoring the centenary of the late American composer Ned Rorem centers on his masterpiece “Aftermath,” written in the wake of 9/11. Through 10 heart-wrenching songs for baritone and piano trio, Rorem’s “Aftermath” focuses on the universal experience of grief and loss and invites us to contemplate what it means to be human and at peace.

Listen Hear: Preludes with Marisa Gupta

American pianist Marisa Gupta will present the world premiere of “12 Preludes for Solo Piano” by the Catalonian composer Marc Migó. Max Tan will host a conversation with Migó and Gupta about the process of composing new works and the relationships between composers and performers. The program will end with Stravinsky's Divertimento, performed by Marisa Gupta with Soundbox Artistic Director Max Tan.

Celebrating Larry and Roxane Solowey: A Chamber Music Benefit Concert

This program, centered on Brahms’ Horn Trio, is a tribute to Larry and Roxane Solowey, two beloved musicians in Sarasota. Larry Solowey, co-principal horn of Sarasota Orchestra, was diagnosed with ALS. All proceeds collected at this concert will be donated to a GoFundMe campaign to address medical and care expenses. Our program will celebrate Larry and Roxane’s impact on the Sarasota arts community, and shine a light on ALS.

Listen Hear Salon Concert: Textures and Timbres

Performers: Max Tan, viola; Sam Boutris, clarinet; Chelsea Wang, piano

Tan, Boutris, and Wang will perform works by Mozart and Bruch, gems of the chamber music repertoire revolving around the viola and clarinet. Elements of the instruments’ singing, breathing, and speaking characteristics will be compared as the artists discuss their interplay—and exchangeability—in classical music.
